SENIOR HONORED

Rebekah Stang, daughter of Bill and Virginia Stang, recently received honors from the National Assoociation of Secondary School Principals. She was nominated to compete in the national Principal's Leadership Award scholarship program from which 150 $1,000 college scholarships will be awarded.

Rebekah received the nomination because she "demonstrated exemplary achievement in her academic work and service to her school and community," said Gerald N. Tirozzi, the executive director of NASSP.

Rebekah is senior class treasurer and has received awards in foreign languages and leadership. She received the Youth Salute Award, Youth Salute Scholarship and a scholarship to Midway College. She has served as president of the art and science clubs, as well as student council treasurer and Beta Club president. In addition to these achievements, Rebekah has played on our girls' volleyball team.

Rebekah seems well on her way to continue her education in nursing. Congratulations Rebekah!

SENIORS, Free Application for Federal Student Aid

FAFSA applications are in the counselor's office now. Seniors need to pick these up before January 1. Students also may complete the FAFSA online and send their data over the Internet at www.fafsa.ed. gov. A brochure titled FAFSA on the Web, The Wave of the Future, is available from the Department of Education to explain the process. You may receive this brochure by calling (800)4FED-AID (800)433-3243).

KASFAA will host the Financial Aid Hotline (1-888-4KASFAA) which is staffed by financial aid professionals who will answer your questions about financial aid. The hotline will be open from 5 to 7:30 p.m. eastern time, January 31 through February 4, February 7 through February 11, and February 21 through February 25. Call toll free 1-888-4KASFAA.

MORE INFORMATION ON COLLEGES AND FINANCIAL AID
The U.S. Department of Education offers a wealth of information on government student-aid programs. You can even apply for some online there. If you are willing to type a long URL into your Web browser, you can read their excellent handbook, The Student Guide, at http://www.ed.gov/

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT'S FRUIT SALE

Thanks to all the students (and parents) and the efforts of Cheryl Lesher and Keri Monroe, who coordinated this year's sale, our fruit sale was a tremendous success. We sold over $11,200 worth of fruit and country hams! And we profit about 50 percent of that!

The past three years, the athletic department has been able to give over $10,000 of the proceeds of this sale back to the school for gym payments and new computers! That's after paying the expenses of a growing athletic department! Fantastic!

GIFT WRAP FUND RAISER
This fund raiser also exceeded our expectations. Over $6,000 was sold; we profited about half that! Once again, thanks to all who made it a success!

HAPPY BIRTHDAYS
Pre-school and kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Denna Bowles, and high school math teacher, Ms. Sandy Smith, will celebrate their birthdays on December 30. Our bookkeeper, Mrs. Pat Cornett, has her birthday on January 3. And fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Ruth Haering, will celebrate on January 7. Happy birthday everyone!
